Interference series pearlescent pigments possess unique optical effects and physical properties, with the following key characteristics:
  1. Color change based on interference principle: The color of interference series pearlescent pigments is produced by the optical interference phenomenon. They adopt a structure of substrate coated with metal oxides. When light irradiates, the high-refractive-index metal oxide coating and low-refractive-index substrate cause interference between reflected and refracted light. As the thickness of the coating increases, the color of the pearlescent pigment gradually changes from white to interference gold, interference red, interference blue, interference green, etc.
  2. White powder, showing interference color in application: The powder of interference series pearlescent pigments is white itself, and the interference color effect can only be observed when applied. For example, colored interference pearlescent pigments, when applied on a black base or mixed with black pigments, will show a pure color effect because the transmitted light is absorbed by black. For instance, interference gold will present a pure golden color on a black base.
  3. Angle-dependent color shifting effect: Interference series pearlescent pigments have the characteristic of angle-dependent color shifting, meaning the color changes with the viewing angle. This is because the interference of reflected and refracted light varies at different angles, resulting in different color combinations and a dynamic visual effect.
  4. Diverse particle sizes and rich effects: Interference series pearlescent pigments are available in a variety of particle sizes, and different particle sizes bring different gloss and texture.
